Optimal portfolio policies under bounded expected loss and partial information

چکیده
In a market with partial information we consider the optimal selection of portfolios for utility maximizing investors under joint budget and shortfall risk constraints. The shortfall risk is measured in terms of expected loss. Stock returns satisfy a stochastic differential equation. Under general conditions on the corresponding drift process we provide the optimal trading strategy using Malliavin calculus. We give extensive numerical results in case of a model for the drift as a Markov process with finitely many states. To deal with the problem of time-discretization when applying the results to market data, we propose a method to detect and correct possible tracking errors.

متن کاملRisk premiums and certainty equivalents of loss-averse newsvendors of bounded utility
Loss-averse behavior makes the newsvendors avoid the losses more than seeking the probable gains as the losses have more psychological impact on the newsvendor than the gains. In economics and decision theory, the classical newsvendor models treat losses and gains equally likely, by disregarding the expected utility when the newsvendor is loss-averse. Moreover, the use of unbounded utility to m...
متن کاملA Benchmark Approach to Portfolio Optimization under Partial Information
This paper proposes a filtering methodology for portfolio optimization when some factors of the underlying model are only partially observed. The level of information is given by the observed quantities that are here supposed to be the primary securities and empirical log-price covariations. For a given level of information we determine the growth optimal portfolio, identify locally optimal por...
متن کاملOptimal consumption and portfolio selection problems under loss aversion with downside consumption constraints
This paper investigates continuous-time optimal portfolio and consumption problems under loss aversion in an infinite horizon. The investor’s goal is to choose optimal portfolio and consumption policies to maximize total discounted S-shaped utility from consumption. The consumption rate process is subject to a downside constraint. The optimal consumption and portfolio policies are obtained thro...
متن کاملEvaluating Portfolio Policies: A Duality Approach
The performance of a given portfolio policy can in principle be evaluated by comparing its expected utility with that of the optimal policy. Unfortunately, the optimal policy is usually not computable, in which case a direct comparison is impossible. In this paper, we solve this problem by using the given portfolio policy to construct an upper bound on the unknown maximum expected utility. This...
